The rustic June “Quadrilhas” is a typical dance of the June parties, danced, mainly, in the Northeast area of Brazil. It is original of old popular dances of rural areas of France (Normandy) and of England. It was introduced in Brazil, more precisely in Rio de Janeiro, possibly in 1820, for members of the imperial elite. During the Empire, the groups or quadrilhas was the favorite dance to open the dances of the Cut. Then it became popular leaving the living rooms of the palaces for the streets and popular clubs, with the people assimilating your aristocratic choreography and giving its new characteristics and regional names.
